【摘要】:Thispracticeisintendedforuseofscraptiresincludingtirechipsortireshredscomprisedofpiecesofscraptires,tirechip/soilmixtures,tiresidewalls,andwholescarptiresincivilengineeringapplications.Thispracticeincludestheuseoftirechips,tireshreds,andtirechip/soilmixturesaslightweightembankmentfill,lightweightretainingwallbackfill,drainagelayers,thermalinsulationtolimitfrostpenetrationbeneathroads,insulatingbackfilltolimitheatlossfrombuildings,andreplacementforsoilorrockinotherfillapplications.Useofwholescraptiresandtiresidewallsincludesconstructionofretainingwallsanddrainageculverts,aswellasuseasfillwhenwholetireshavebeencompressedintobales.Itistheresponsibilityofthedesignengineertodeterminetheappropriatenessofusingscraptiresinaparticularapplicationandtoselectapplicabletestsandspecificationstofacilitateconstructionandenvironmentalprotection.Thispracticeisintendedtoencouragewiderutilizationofscraptiresincivilengineeringapplications.Threetireshredfillswiththicknessesinexcessof7mhaveexperiencedaseriousheatingreaction;however,morethan70fillswithathicknesslessthan3mhavebeenconstructedwithnoevidenceofadeleteriousheatingreaction(1)6.Guidelineshavebeendevelopedtominimizeinternalheatingoftireshredfills(2)asdiscussedin6.10.Theguidelinesareapplicabletofillslessthan3mthick;thus,thispracticeshouldbeappliedonlytotireshredfillslessthan3mthick.1.1Thispracticeprovidesguidancefortestingthephysicalpropertiesandgivesdataforassessmentoftheleachategenerationpotentialofprocessedorwholescraptiresinlieuofconventionalcivilengineeringmaterials,suchasstone,gravel,soil,sand,orotherfillmaterials.Inaddition,typicalconstructionpracticesareoutlined.
